EARLY LIFE ﹠. EDUCATION
HIRST was born to a high school history teacher and a used car salesman in ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA––––about 25 minutes outside of THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. her mother was a graduate of GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY and spent the time she wasn't teaching to volunteer at the local YMCA after-school program. most of HIRST'S early years consisted of helping her mother set up her classroom in late summer and juggling administrative work at her father's dealership after school. she earned a bachelor of arts from the UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND in political science and a juris doctor from GEORGETOWN LAW SCHOOL, where she was a member of the criminal law association and PHI ALPHA DELTA.
CAREER
HIRST began her legal career clerking for JUSTICE STEPHEN BREYER, after which she became a litigation associate at WILLIAMS ﹠. CONNOLLY, LLP. in 1998. a few years later she moved to the U.S. ATTORNEY'S OFFICE as a trial attorney handling criminal matters, where HIRST stayed until 2006 when she returned to WILLIAMS ﹠. CONNOLLY, LLC. as a partner. after padding her belt with a number of complex, high-profile cases at
W ﹠. P, ELANA was elected to the VIRGINIA COURT OF APPEALS where she served as a judge for eight ⎛ 8 ⎠ years, the last four ⎛ 4 ⎠ during which she was selected by her peers to serve in the capacity of chief justice. following the end of her term with the COURT OF APPEALS, HIRST was nominated by incoming president ELENA KING - a professional acquaintance - for the position of ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES. she was approved by the SENATE in a 55-44 vote.

P; however, she made every effort to attend all lacrosse games, recitals, and parent-teacher nights———at times sacrificing lead on a significant case in order to be the mother she believed her son deserved.
ELANA and ANDREW split amicably and unanimously in 2013, just before ELANA took her seat at the VIRGINIA COURT OF APPEALS. the two share/d joint custody of their son, ANDREW spending the first few years after the split in D.C. to maintain proximity to his child ⎛ and to preserve the integrity of the couple’s image ⎠. it was not until he discovered what he believed to be ELANA’S true intention in the split that he left for LOS ANGELES: a very close female friend of ELANA’S having been caught sneaking out of her townhouse one saturday morning. accusations of infidelity and use of ANDREW as a ‘beard’ promptly cropped up just before the official announcement that ELANA was the top contender for the new president’s anticipated ATTORNEY GENERAL nomination.
